You may want to add your favourite essential oil as a fragrance but it is not necessary and be cautious that they baby is not allergic or otherwise to what you choose. The coconut oil adds its own delicious scent.
For you and baby to feel silky smooth, just add several tablespoons of coconut oil to bathwater for added moisturizing to your skin. A few drops of lavender essential oil will also make the bathwater soothing and relaxing too. Relax and just drift away.
Body Lotion
Baby’s skin is usually lovely and soft and not in need of lotions or creams, but if your baby needs a little help, coconut oil is the perfect natural moisturiser. Dry patches in the creases of their neck and little legs can be uncomfortable. Just a quick dab of coconut oil dabbed on will help to keep the area moisturised while protecting the skin from further irritation. Excellent for eczema in either mum or baby.
Massage Oil
There are many benefits from baby massage for both mum and baby. Not only is the bond between mother and baby strengthened, the massaging can also relax mum and baby alike, ideal just before bedtime. It is good to make your own massage oil as many bought oils contain petroleum.
To make it as pure as possible use extra virgin coconut oil. This ensures that the oil has not been refined or bleached with chemicals added and therefore is as natural as possible for baby. Simply take one part coconut oil and one part olive oil mixed together.
Cradle Cap Treatment
Coconut oil can be used as a natural treatment for cradle cap. All you need to do is massage the oil into your baby’s scalp and leave in for about 20 minutes. The coconut oil will act as a moisturiser and will loosen the cradle cap flakes while nourishing the scalp. After twenty minutes, rinse the coconut oil off and use a soft brush to gently comb the hair and remove any excess. Coconut oil is the perfect carrier oil to remove baby’s stubborn cradle cap.
Nappy Rash
For new-borns coconut oil is excellent for removing the sticky meconium from baby’s bottom. Just massage in a little coconut oil to the babies nether regions when changing their nappy.
For older babies urine can often cause nasty infections and painful rashes or even a yeast infection. Just gently rub the oil onto baby’s rash during a nappy change once you have wiped the area clean
This is a natural way to cure rashes and there is not risk of it becoming worse. The thick coconut oil acts as a barrier to prevent further infection or irritation. The oil will nourishes the skin keeping it soft and flexible and being natural it will not stain the babies clothing in the way that chemical based products tend to do.
